Brothers, Arthur, Maurice, and Louis
Melamed, founded the Minneapolis, based
Coast to Coast hardware store chain in
1928. By the 1950's the chain grew to
1,200 stores in 26 states, from Ohio to
California.
All the stores had a set layout, 12
departments, with inventory such as;
housewares, gifts, appliances, auto
supplies, electrical plumbing, garden
supplies, paint, toys, and sporting
goods which included baseball gloves.
The Coast to Coast store brand
baseball gloves were manufactured under
contract with one of the established
sporting goods companies such as
Rawlings or Denkert
sporting Goods company. In 1990, Servistar purchased
Coast to Coast, and by 1997 merged with True Value, and
did business under the True Value name.
