In
1939 the Esso Oil Company sent
out a mailer to promote the
Esso
Baseball Handbook, 1839-1939 Baseball's
100th Anniversary Edition. A free copy
was made available at your local Esso
station. The station's information was
provided at the bottom, of the inside
flyer. This Mailer was sent out by
"Felix s. McManamon, 456 River Street,
Troy, N.Y."
The book, edited by Christy Walsh, as listed on the inside of the flyer is

The outside of the broadsheet fold mailer reads "BIG FREE OFFER, OPEN OTHER SIDE!"
in the lower left corner, with a 1 cent
postage stamp on the upper right, and
addressed in the center. The opposite
side has a blue-tone illustration of a
boy, and a police officer, watching a
ballgame through knotholes in a wooden
fence. It reads: "Baseball Season Is
Here Again! - 1839-1939, Celebrating
It's 100th Anniversary" The mailer was
sealed with an orange sticker. When
unfolded the flyer is reveled for the
free copy of the Baseball Handbook.
Unfold again, a "Spring Check-Up
Service" ad.
