The 1961
Post baseball card set consist of 200 cards that measure approximately
2 1/2" x 3 1/2". This was the first major set issued
my Post. The cards were available on thick cardbox stock, singly or
in various panel sizes from cereal boxes (BOX), or in team sheets,
printed on thinner cardboard stock, directly from the Post Cereal
Company (COM). It is difficult to differentiate the COM cards from
the BOX cards; the thickness of the card stock is the best
indicator. There was also an album produced by Post to hold the
cards.
The cards are
numbered in team groups: New York Yankees (1-18), Chicago White Sox
(19-34), Detroit (35-46), Boston (47-56), Cleveland (57-67),
Baltimore (68-80), Kansas City (81-90), Minnesota (91-100),
Milwaukee (101-114), Philadelphia (115-124), Pittsburgh (125-140),
San Francisco (141-155), Los Angeles Dodgers (156-170), St. Louis
(171-180), Cincinnati (181-190), and Chicago Cubs (191-200).
